Officials say they have found mosquitoes carrying West Nile in four different sections of Brooklyn.
The city's Department of Health says Dyker Heights, Greenwood Heights, Starrett City and Windsor Terrace are the affected areas.
Department of Health officials say there are steps to take in order to avoid getting the potentially serious disease. Officials say wearing insect repellent, especially one containing deet, as well as wearing protective clothing like long sleeves and socks are ways to avoid getting insect bites.
The department also recommends making sure there are tight-fitting screens around your windows and doors, and to clear out any standing water around the house.
