The mother of an 18-year-old who was gunned down in East New York called for an end to the neighborhood's violence Thursday, one day after the slaying.
Police arrested three suspects in connection with the bullets that struck Darnell Wilkerson in the head near the corner of Pennsylvania and Livonia avenues.
Wilkerson's mother, Kathy, stood at the same corner when she begged for peace in the community.
"We've got to take it back -- take back our community," she said. "It's my kid. It's many of these women out here that lost their children."
Wilkerson, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, wanted to coach sports, according to his mother.
The family declined to speak specifically about the attack, but said that Wilkerson was not a gang member.
Wilkerson's 17-year-old friend suffered a bullet wound to the arm during the attack.
