Dozens gathered Sunday at City Hall to remember Nixmary Brown and other children who have fallen victim to child abuse.
None of the mother's who turned out knew Brown, but the young Brooklyn girl's brutal death in 2006 moved them to take action.
"We are moms who are fed up, moms who have had enough," says Rose Lapsley-Morrisoe, the founder of Nixzmary Brown's Army.
The group of mothers banded together outside of City Hall in Manhattan to call for the passage of a law that would ensure that those responsible for child abuse are held accountable.
"Children need to be protected. If they're not being protected within their own homes, people in the community must do their part," says Ama Dwimoh, an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn.
