A Black-owned café in Mott Haven says they are bringing luxury and convenience to the Bronx.
According to the owners, First Level Café was the goal of five Bronx families living inside an apartment building at 224 East 135th Street.
"We wanted to make it a place for people to relax. A hub for the community,” said owner Rory Waterman.
The café is open six days a week, offering coffee, sandwiches, pastries and salads.
First Level Café has been well received by the customers, who say it is a special attraction for the Bronx community.
“You can come down to eat, relax and have a good coffee. That's definitely a good thing,” said customer Rhodney Davis.
By May, the owners plan to add 75 different brands of cereal to their menu.
“We're going to have it infused with ice cream, candy, different toppings," said Waterman.
