Transfer charges incurred by straphangers who use the L and 3 trains are set to come to an end, but commuters will have to be patient.

MTA officials say they will stop charging riders who connect from the 3 train to the L train starting in 2019. Right now, the only way to connect between the trains is to go all the way into Manhattan or by bus. That's why many commuters walk two blocks and simply pay the extra fare.

The MTA says the goal is to help commuters while it closes down the Sandy damaged tunnels connecting the L train to Manhattan for repairs in 2019.

Some commuters say they don't mind the wait as long as it eventually happens.

MTA officials say they are also building a walkway to connect the two stations.
