Muslims across Brooklyn are celebrating the holiday of Haji Tuesday by attending services throughout the borough.
Muslims say the holiday is a day of atonement and reconciliation and a time for sacrifice. One Brooklyn resident says on this day a wealthy family makes Qurban and cuts up a sheep or a goat. They then distribute the meat to people who are less fortunate. He says the holiday commemorates Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son to God.
The holiday falls on the 10th of the final month on the Islamic calendar. It is also a time when Muslims make a pilgrimage to Mecca.
