An archeological survey has uncovered a 3,000-year-old Native American fort site at Norwalk’s Walk Bridge construction area.

The survey also uncovered several thousand artifacts of varying ages.

The discovery indicates that Native Americans used the area generations before European settlers arrived.

Some of the artifacts include an "Orient fishtail" point and a Lamoka point.

Archeologists say discoveries like this are very rare. In fact, fewer than six have been found in Connecticut and the Long Island Sound combined.

The archeologists say they have not found evidence of any human remains.

The Walk Bridge program includes several interconnected rail and infrastructure construction projects in Norwalk. The biggest project is the replacement of the 122-year-old Norwalk River Railroad Bridge, known as the Walk Bridge.
