Neighbors had complained of building before fatal fire
At least one person has died after a house fire erupted in a vacant building on Lincoln Avenue Tuesday.
Officials say 133 firefighters responded to the three-story building just after 10 p.m. Neighbors say a group of squatters had settled inside.
But the flames spread to a neighboring building, and the FDNY says firefighters found a body after putting out the blaze. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire also displaced several families, but no other injuries were reported.
The owners of a neighboring building, which was badly damaged by flames, say they've made several attempts to get the vacant building in order.
"It seems to be owned by US Bank, so we really have just been trying to reach out to them and see if somebody can come and better secure the actual building," the neighbors say.
News 12 also reached out to US Bank, but has not yet heard back.
