A new app called Vamonde helps people plan their own walking tours of Brooklyn neighborhoods.

"There's a lot of organizations in Brooklyn that are very vested in the success of the neighborhood as a cultural art and experiential place for visitors and locals," Vamonde's Anijo Matthew.

The app offers interesting facts about the borough and its buildings. For example, did you know that trolley service was common at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush avenues until 1953?

The app then directs users to learn more at the New York Transit Museum.

"I was just in my office and I opened up the app and I discovered that one of the buildings really just around the corner from my office used to be a stop on the Underground Railroad," says Kinsey Crowley, of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.

In addition to suggesting cultural institutions, the app can tell users where the nearest restaurant or coffee shop is located.
