A new face has taken over as executive director of Southside United HDFC, or "Los Sures," in Williamsburg.
The nonprofit was searching for a replacement since May and ended up turning to Juan Ramos, a Bedford-Stuyvesant man who was already active in the community.
Ramos' four children live in Williamsburg and he has for years helped that neighborhood, in addition to Bed-Stuy and Bushwick.
"I think what I bring to the table is basically someone who believes in giving voice to those who don't have a voice," he says.
Ramos served on the board of directors for Los Sures since 2012. When it needed a new executive director, the other members asked him to apply.
The nonprofit has a host of social services that include a food pantry, tenant advocacy programs and senior housing.
Ramos officially takes his post Oct. 1.
