New Jersey residents organize effort to recall Gov. Murphy
A group of New Jersey women have organized an effort to remove Gov. Phil Murphy from office.
One of the organizers, Somerset County resident Terry Beck, told radio station New Jersey 101.5 that she and her fellow organizers started the effort after the governor raised taxes, enacted some policies that benefited undocumented immigrants, and passed more gun restrictions.
“If New Jersey continues the road they’re on with Murphy’s plans, all that’s going to happen is there’s going to be lawsuits, lawsuits, lawsuits," Beck told the station.
The group started the “Recall Phil Murphy Petition” Facebook page and are creating a legal petition, which if it receives enough signatures, could issue a recall election for the governor. For a recall election to happen, the petition would need to collect the signature of at least 25 percent of registered voters in New Jersey – nearly 1.5 million people.
According to the group’s Facebook page, the petition is “is going through attorney review and could take some more time in the Trenton red tape.”
Anyone who wishes to sign the petition will need to contact the organizers. This is not an online petition, which has no legal standing.
The organizers say that once the petition is ready for signatures, they will let the public know how it can be signed.
