A new initiative has been launched to help educate New Yorkers about the Organics Collection program.
The Department on Sanitation unveiled new PSAs, in the form of posters, at local bus stops and shelters to remind people to, "Give your leftovers to plants, not landfills."
DOS Commissioner Kathryn Garcia says she hopes the posters will entice people to spread word about the program throughout the city.
Garcia says people must be vigilant about getting the word out since they are not used to separating their food waste from regular garbage.
