Lehman College celebrated its newly renovated performing arts center with a ribbon-cutting on Thursday.

Lehman Center For the Performing Arts first opened its doors in 1980. Its mission is to provide Bronx residents and others with access to affordable and culturally diverse performances.

The ribbon-cutting not only celebrated the completion of the $15.4 million renovation, but it also kicked off the performing arts center's 40th season.

Lehman's renovation took less than two years to complete. It includes a 5,400 square feet of enlarged space and new entrance ramps. This makes the space Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant.

The renovation also features a redesigned box office and new restrooms.

Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. spoke at the ribbon-cutting saying, "Diversity in entertainment at a reasonable price. This is what it means to create memories. This is an opportunity for families to come together. It bridges the generational gap and it's happening right here at Lehman in the boogie down Bronx."
