The city is advising New Yorkers to take safety precautions ahead of the weekend storm of snow, rain and freezing conditions.
Officials say the roads may be dangerous and the strong winds could cause power outages.
In preparation for an outage, they advise New Yorkers to
  • Charge cellphones
  • Stock up on necessities
  • Turn refrigerator and/or freezers to a colder setting
Residents are also advised to stay clear of downed power lines, turn off appliances, and not to use generators indoors.
Individuals with disabilities, access needs, or those who use life-sustaining equipment and need immediate assistance are advised to call 911.
