NYC Street Seats Program opens seating on streets, limits parking
The Department of Transportation's is partnering with local businesses to turn streets into public spaces from March through December.
Part of the NYC Street Seats Program will take place on Seventh Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets.
According to the city, the seats are placed in a roadbed along the curb, forming a public space for people to work, eat, read or meet a friend.
The restaurant Pokeworks in Brooklyn applied to be part of the program, and the community board voted to allow it.
The program will take up a parking space in front of Pokeworks.
The businesses involved with the initiative are able to design the seating arrangement, but it must be approved by the DOT.
The businesses must also keep the public space clean, take care of the plants and store the furniture.
