An elevator mechanic helper for the New York City Housing Authority died on the job Friday in Coney Island.
The worker, identified as 54-year-old Igor Begun, was working in the roof's elevator machine shortly before 11:30 a.m. when something went wrong.
Investigators believe Begun was working on a fuse box and may have been electrocuted, although the cause of death remains under investigation.
A colleague who was performing elevator maintenance in the building's lobby discovered the body. By the time emergency workers arrived on the scene, officials say Begun was dead.
NYCHA has issued a statement offering condolences to the victim's family.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
