The New York Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against the Kings County Hospital Center over what it describes as inhumane conditions.
The lawsuit, filed in Brooklyn, alleges the hospital leaves psychiatric, disabled and young patients to fend for themselves in squalor. The NYCLU claims psychiatric patients are confined to wards that have floors soaked with urine, feces and blood. The group also says psychiatric patients are left to sleep in plastic chairs for days and the disabled often have to drag their bodies to unsanitary bathrooms.
The NYCLU maintains patients who object to the conditions are forcibly injected with drugs. The allegations stem from an NYCLU investigation.
After numerous calls to the hospital, officials said they could not comment on the case and referred News 12 Brooklyn to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. News 12 is awaiting comment from the HHH.
