An elderly man was threatened and attacked at the corner of East 161st and the Grand Concourse by a suspect who was attempting to rob him, according to the NYPD.
Police say the incident took place at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, when a 91-year-old man was approached from behind by a suspect and threatened with a knife, demanding the victim’s property.
The man fell to the ground and was taken to Lincoln Hospital after suffering a head injury. He is expected to be OK.
Law enforcement says they are searching for the suspect, who was last seen fleeing down East 161st Street. Residents say that incidents like this one always make them have to keep their guard up at all times.
“You got people walking around here with untreated mental health, you don’t know what they’re thinking… in an area such as this it, could be very dangerous because you do have a lot of older people in these areas,” said one Grand Concourse resident.
