The NYPD is honoring a detective from The Bronx who was shot and killed while on duty in December 2005.

Commissioner Ray Kelly recognized Daniel Enchautegui's sacrifice with a special plaque at the 40th Precinct Tuesday. The detective had been returning home from work when he heard breaking glass in the house next door. He went to investigate and was shot in the chest by one of two burglary suspects.

The man who killed Enchautegui was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. The second suspect, an actor who appeared in "A Bronx Tale" and "The Sopranos," is serving time for attempted burglary.
