The NYPD kicked off a new traffic safety plan in Brooklyn Monday.

The three-week safety enforcement operation is part of the city's "Vision Zero" plan to reduce traffic deaths.

The NYPD will be cracking down on drivers who speed, run red lights and text behind the wheel. They have set up an electronic sign on a street in Brooklyn as a reminder for drivers to be safe on the road.

Some residents near Atlantic Avenue say they welcome the increased patrols because of some of the outrageous driving habits they have noticed in the area.

The NYPD says officers will be patrolling the city's most dangerous intersections 24 hours a day, so that drivers remember to be safe at all times and keep their cellphones out of sight.

The enforcement operation will last through Fourth of July weekend.
