Police officials say they rescued a 13-year-old boy from the waters of Prospect Park Lake at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
FDNY officials say they responded to a 911 call that someone was drowning in the park lake. Police confirmed that the person was a 13-year-old child. The boy was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.
Witnesses in the area say they saw the child being removed from the water, which is lined with signs that caution New Yorkers from entering it.
“We saw… ambulances pulling the little boy out of the water,” said witness Alana Thomas. “His friends were right by the trees talking with the police officers… There were no parents. It was just little boys, and they were all the same age. They looked like they were like five of them.”
