NYPD: Man dies after car collides with garbage truck in Gerritsen Beach

According to the NYPD, a 42-year-old man was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Police say a man has died following a midnight car collision with a garbage truck on Gerritsen Avenue in Brooklyn.
According to the NYPD, a 42-year-old man was rushed to the hospital where he died.
The driver of the garbage truck was not seriously injured and remained at the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
A spokesperson for Cogent Waste Solutions, owner of the sanitation truck and employer of the driver, responded to the incident saying:

Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased family's loved ones . According to sources on scene, the driver of the Mercedes had a revoked license a history of DUI while operating an unregistered vehicle. Witnesses say he was driving at a high rate of speed passing a red light ultimately striking the rear of the truck. Again, we are saddened by this tragic loss of life. We are fully cooperating with the investigation.
