Police said a 25-year-old man was fatally shot in Belmont Sunday afternoon in the same location where 15-year-old Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz was killed back in 2018.
They say Achielles Baskin was shot in the head at the corner of East 183rd Street and Bathgate Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. in front of the memorial that honors Guzman-Feliz’s life.
Baskin was unconscious and unresponsive when the officers arrived at the scene. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital -- just one block from where the shooting took place, where he was pronounced dead.
A witness at the scene told News 12 that he was visiting family when he heard five shots. He looked out the window and saw Baskin lying on the ground. He added that something has to change to curb violence in the city.
Other neighbors told News 12 that they were saddened that the shooting happened almost four years to the day when Bathgate Avenue was co-named after Guzman-Feliz.
Police said no arrest had been made as of Sunday night.
Police ask anyone with any information into the shooting to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
