Fourth of July safety measures are underway as the NYPD is gearing up for tomorrow’s 47th annual Macy’s fireworks show.
Acting Police Commissioner Eduard A. Caban told New Yorkers on Monday that thousands of police officers will be deployed for the holiday.
NYPD’s chief of the Counterterrorism Division, Judith Harrison, broke down the many levels of security where the Macy’s fireworks show will be taking place. Over 100 cameras have been set up specifically for the security of the event, and all people in attendance will have to undergo a soft bag check.
Harrison also stated that backpacks, large bags, lawn chairs, coolers, alcohol and umbrellas are permitted for those attending the fireworks show.
For further protection, there will be radiation vessels protected city waterways, especially the East River. Counterterrorism-trained personnel will be deployed across precincts in the city, and precinct patrols will be monitoring for drunk and drugged drivers.
