Police officials say the department ended its contract last week with Boston Dynamics to lease the robot.
City Council leaders issued a subpoena after images of the robot went viral as it patrolled a Manhattan housing project.
The NYPD paid $94,000 to lease the robot.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has also asked the NYPD to reconsider using the robot.
