NYPD's "Summer All Out" initiative begins
In an effort to bring crime down, the NYPD's "Summer All Out" initiative kicked off Monday.
The 330 officers, pulled from other duties, will be added to street patrols in precincts where there's been a rise in crime in the hope to halt the violence. In Brooklyn, extra officers will be assigned to two police service areas and four precincts, including in East New York.
According to the NYPD, there have been more than 400 shootings across the city this year. And in the 75th Precinct there have been 11 murders since the start of the year, compared to five during this time last year, statistics show.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says the program was very successful last year. He adds that the initiative, along with other tools such as the ShotSpotter system, leaves him with high expectations this year.
