Thousands of Occupy Wall Street protesters attempted to shut down major arteries across the city as part of a massive May Day demonstration.
The group urged people to cause traffic delays at bridges and tunnels, including the Brooklyn Bridge. They also wanted followers to gather around major financial buildings to rally against corporations that they say control the city.
The movement was also called into question Monday night as the NYPD investigated seven envelopes mailed out to various city banks containing a non-toxic white power. An Occupy Wall Street spokesperson said the mailings had nothing to do with their protests and only distracted from the today's events.
