Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials helped break ground today on the mall at Bay Plaza.
The Co-op City expansion on Baychester Avenue will be the first enclosed fashion mall to open in the New York City area in almost 40 years. It will be anchored by JC Penney and Macy's.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says the mall will generate 3,700 new jobs. It's set to open in the spring of 2014.
