Officials: Man falls 7 stories down BK elevator shaft
A man fell seven stories down an elevator shaft at a construction site Tuesday in Bushwick.
It happened around 10:15 a.m. at 246 Johnson Ave.
Workers say the 41-year-old construction worker was on the job for Economy Elevator, where he's worked for the past two years. He was wearing both a harness and a helmet, they say.
The victim was reportedly alert and speaking with emergency service workers who extracted him from the elevator shaft.
He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
News 12 Brooklyn is awaiting a statement from Economy Elevator.
Union officials say the incident shows a need for state lawmakers to pass legislation requiring minimum training standards for elevator mechanics.
