A year after the Fairway supermarket in Red Hook opened, residents still have mixed opinions about the store.
Some people said they initially thought the 45,000-square foot supermarket would cause traffic problems. One year later, some still feel that way. Detractors also feel the store has disrupted the quiet feel of the community. However, most appear to believe the Fairway has been good for Red Hook.
?I think it's the best thing that ever happened because we really didn't have a place to shop ?til we get out of this neighborhood,? resident Rosemarie Scolaro said.
Fairway?s owner said from the beginning that the supermarket would bring jobs and money to the area. Fairway employees agree.
Luxury condos were also opened in the area last year.
