About 60 men and women joined local leaders to raise awareness for breast cancer and honor those who have battled the disease.

They shared poetry, songs and personal stories.

Assemblywoman Pamela Harris and other breast cancer survivors joined to light up the Coney Island parachute jump in pink.

"It's a time for remembrance, a tough remembrance," Harris said. "I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, and I had my right breast removed. I was already Stage 2, and I had a big lump in my breast. It reflects survival. We need a cure for cancer." 

Earlier this year, Harris helped pass a law expanding access to breast cancer screenings by eliminating co-pays and extending hours at hospitals and clinics.
