Parents of children who attend P.S. 99 in Midwood say they want the Department of Education to close the school to disinfect the building after some students had flu-like symptoms.

On Friday, the school had a 60 percent attendance rate due to increasing absences. One parent says there were at least four confirmed cases of swine flu at the school, though the Department of Health could not verify that claim. The DOE says it is monitoring the school and has not had reason to close it.

Parents say they feel the school is being neglected and they fear their children will become ill.

"Still the city is not closing the school down," Susan Kim, a parent, says. "What do they need? A student to die, or a principal or teacher to die to clean the school? It's not fair."

The last day of the school year is June 26.
