Dozens rallied in Parkchester Monday to demand an end to a rise in crime in the area.
They say the string of crimes includes car robberies and vehicle stealing.
One of the organizers said that the issue affects everyone in the community.
"They're working hard and on their way, they got beat up, so we are here to protest. We are to make sure you, we want to make sure… police department, anti-crime unit, hate crime unit, they work better so that people are safe. Safety is now our number one priority of our community," said Mohammed Mujumder, a candidate for City Council District 18.
The rally started at Olmstead Avenue and went through Union Port Road.
