Parking relief on the way for cyclists in Williamsburg
Larger sidewalks and more bike racks may be coming to Williamsburg after a recent police raid on illegally parked bikes. Police said they seized the bikes after receiving complaints from the community. Residents said the bikes were crowding the sidewalks and pedestrians were forced to walk in the street. Cyclists were furious and said the lack of bike racks on Bedford Avenue near North Seventh Street, left them with no choice but to park illegally. In response, Community Board 1 has decided to extend the sidewalk on North Seventh Street and install more bike racks.
