Permits present roadblock for Park Slope day care
A Park Slope day care provider is fighting the city to reopen her business, which parents say is sorely needed.
Debbie Capone said she upgraded her facility?s space and opened Parker's Place, but had to close weeks after enrolling kids. "I've done all the work. I've got two carbon monoxide alarms. I've got fire extinguishers," Capone said. "There are three ways to get out of here."
However, the city closed the center because she failed to receive the proper permits. Capone said inspectors took issue with one of the center's exits being shared with other people in the building.
According to the group Child Care, Inc., there are about 212,333 children under 6 in Brooklyn, but only 37,067 early child care spots available.
A mother who enrolled her child at Parker's Place said she's now scrambling to find an alternative.
Capone hopes to right the situation and have her center open by Thanksgiving.
