Police say a teenage girl was struck by a vehicle in Brighton Beach and is in critical condition.

According to the NYPD, the 19-year-old was riding her skateboard on the corner of Neptune Avenue and Brighton 10th Street at around 8:30 a.m. when she was struck by a black car.

The teen was crossing the pedestrian cross walk when the vehicle made a right-hand turn. The victim, who they say was riding a skateboard, was struck by that vehicle.

Her family members have identified the victim as Zuri Mesa Flores and say she lives nearby.

Witnesses tell News 12 nearby workers used a bulldozer to lift the vehicle off Flores, and FDNY firefighter Jose Cristales came to Flores' rescue while off duty.

"We dragged the young lady out and I immediately went to go see if she had a pulse and if she was breathing," said Cristales, who says he was sleeping before the commotion and immediately started giving her CPR. "It was the best thing in the world really because you want to try as hard as you can to save a life.”

Law enforcement officials say the 43-year-old woman who was driving remained at the scene.

Several people who live in this area near two schools tell News 12 people drive too fast, and parents say they worry for their kids.
