Police: 31-year-old man fatally struck by van in East New York
A 31-year-old man was fatally struck by a van in East New York early Saturday morning, police say.
They say the man was found with extensive bodily trauma after a 911 call came in around 5:30 a.m.
The man was trying to cross Linden Boulevard when he was struck by a 73-year-old man driving a white Ford Ecoline van eastbound.
The victim was pronounced dead in the street.
A witness says the man was crossing the street even though the traffic light was green and cars had the right of way.
One woman who lives in the area says accidents like this are nothing new in the area.
"It takes too long to get over," she says. "Sometimes the light turns as you're standing in the middle."
News 12 is told that the driver remained on scene and was not injured.
Police say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
It marks the second of its kind on Linden Boulevard in just over two weeks.
