Police: 7-year-old struck by car in Sunset Park
A 7-year-old sustained head and leg injuries when he was hit by a car in Sunset Park.
Police say a man was driving along 56th Street around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and hit the boy, who was crossing in the middle of the block.
Police say the victim went to Lutheran Medical Center with a large laceration to the forehead and a broken leg. After originally being listed in critical condition, police say he is in stable condition.
The victim's cousin says the boy is from Staten Island and was coming from school with his grandmother when he was hit by the car.
"I saw my little cousin on the floor, he was bleeding a lot, like a car hit him," says Luis Garcia, the victim's cousin. "When I went inside to check the camera, you see the car at full-speed, going straight ahead and then hit him directly on the head. He flew up in the air and he started bleeding on the floor."
Police say Ceaser Lopez, 28, stayed at the scene and was arrested for driving without a license and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
