An 81-year-old woman was struck by a Department of Sanitation truck in Dyker Heights.

Police say the woman was hit as she was attempting to cross the road at 15th Avenue and 85th Street. It happened around 8:43 a.m. Thursday.

A witness who works at a nearby grocery store told News 12 that the woman is a frequent customer. She said she saw the woman on the ground, underneath the truck and screaming.

The 34-year-old driver of the sanitation truck remained on scene as help arrived, according to investigators.

Authorities say the woman is in stable condition at Lutheran hospital.
