Police are investigating after an 88-year-old woman was found bludgeoned to death inside her Bronx apartment complex.

Police say the woman was dropping off groceries at her Pelham Bay apartment when she was killed. Evelyn Shapiro was found in the hallway of her apartment building, unconscious and bleeding from the head.

Neighbors at the Pelham Bay Houses say Shapiro lived alone and was an active member of the Sue Ginsburg Senior Center.

Police are asking anyone who has any information about the murder to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
