Police have stepped up security at the Pelham Parkway Houses after several shootings and violent crimes over the summer.
Officials say the mobile command center, located across the street from the houses, will not be permanent.
City Council members and activists demanded a change after 88-year-old Evelyn Shapiro was bludgeoned to death outside her apartment in June and Adrian Garcia was shot to death two weeks ago.
Councilman James Vacca says he has also allocated $3 million for the installation of security cameras in the area.
The Pelham Parkway Houses are located in the area of the 49th Precinct, which has seen the murder rate increase by 200 percent from last year.
