Authorities today announced the arrests of 14 people who are charged in a massive car theft ring.
The suspects would allegedly stalk their targets, often owners of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, to determine the best time to strike. The complex organization would then make phony documents for the cars and ship them to far-off destinations, including Chicago and even Africa, investigators say.
Police say the ring was responsible for stealing more than 100 cars, worth around $4 million. They say some of the cars were stored in The Bronx.
Ten of the 14 suspects are charged with enterprise corruption, which carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
