Police fatally shoot armed home invasion suspect
NYPD officers responded to a home invasion in Bensonhurst and fatally shot an armed suspect as an accomplice fled, officials say.
The second suspect remains at large. Police say he was wearing a yellow hard hat, but it was not immediately clear whether he was also armed.
According to police, there were seven adults and an infant in the home when they arrived around 6:30 p.m. The suspect pushed an air conditioner from a window and tried to flee down the fire escape. He hopped a fence but ran into additional police, who had just arrived in the area.
He allegedly pointed his gun at them, and two police members opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators say they recovered a gun at the scene.
Video sent to News 12 by a viewer appears to show the aftermath of the shooting on 78th Street near Stillwell Avenue. It shows a person laid out on a stretcher.
The people in the home were unharmed, police say.
It's the second police-involved shooting in as many days in Brooklyn. Police shot and injured 31-year-old Paul Mathurin in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens on Sunday after investigators say he threatened others with a gun. Authorities say they did recover a gun during that incident.
