A vague description of a violent home invasion suspect was all Fairfield police needed to make an arrest after a chase Tuesday night.
Police say Guilherme Lima-Da Silva, 40, from Bridgeport, acted as a landscaper before forcing his way inside the Coventry Lane home of a 62-year-old woman around 2 p.m.
Police say he pushed the woman to the ground and threatened her with a knife before stealing jewelry and locking the woman inside a room.
Moments after the incident, the victim called 911 and described a male wearing a baseball hat and a dark-colored jacket as her assailant.
Using that description, police say an officer spotted Lima-Da Silva driving a black-colored Kia and stopped him at Congress Road and Black Rock Turnpike. The officer took his ID. While walking back to his patrol car, police say Lima-Da Silva sped away.
Lima-Da Silva allegedly led police on a chase for miles before ditching the car on Davis Road and running on foot. Officers eventually caught up to him and arrested him on Lilalyn Drive.
Officials say they found the victim's jewelry on Lima-Da Silva when they arrested him. Lima-Da Silva, who told police that he is a citizen of Brazil, is being held on $800,000 bail and faces criminal and motor vehicle charges. His next court date is May 30.
