A makeshift memorial has been set up as the East Flatbush community mourns and honors the victims of Thursday's shooting.
Candles were lit to remember and honor the life of Kenly Joseph, one of the men killed in Thursday's East Flatbush shooting, that investigators have labeled a crime of passion.
Police say Jerry Patterson, 39, gunned down his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, Joseph, Thursday night before turning the gun on himself. Investigators say Patterson's young children witnessed the apparent murder-suicide.
Police say a preliminary investigation led them to believe that Patterson waited outside the home for the couple and then approached them, shooting into the vehicle. They say bullets hit Joseph in the head and the woman in the torso before the Patterson shot himself in the head.
The woman remained in critical but stable condition at Kings County Hospital Center Friday. Police have not released her identity.
Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene, while Joseph died at Brookdale Hospital.
According to multiple reports, Patterson was supposed to be exchanging custody of the children.
Police say the children, ages 6 and 11, were not injured and are safe with a family friend.
