Bridgeport police are searching for two scam artists who they say robbed a senior citizen of her life savings and threatened to abduct her daughter.
Macrina Chilchoa, 65, describes the ordeal as the most traumatic experience of her life. Chilchoa, who does not speak English, says she was collecting cans and bottles on Park Avenue around 11:30 Thursday when two Spanish-speaking women approached her. They claimed to have just won $1 million in the lottery.
They asked Chilchoa if she knew a Spanish-speaking attorney who could help them collect their winnings. Chilchoa says she was enticed by the promise of a few dollars for her trouble.
She got into a car with the women, who took her to her home. It was there that they allegedly threatened to abduct Chilchoa's daughter, who was in the house at the time.
Chilchoa says she was terrified. She accompanied the women to the bank and withdrew cash that the women allegedly demanded. The pair made off with $5,000, which amounted to Chilchoa's life savings, and police say they also took all of her jewelry.
Police say they have surveillance video from neighboring houses that shows the suspects' faces. They expect the video to be key in their investigation.
Investigators say they plan to release images of the suspects' faces soon.
