Police are searching for a man in connection to an attack in East New York that left a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus driver with nearly a dozen stitches in his head.
The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Linden Boulevard. Police say the suspect ran to try and catch the B-15 bus but its doors were already closed and the bus began driving away.
Police say that's when the suspect chased the bus down. When it stopped, they say he got on the bus and struck the 65-year-old driver in the face with a metal padlock.
News 12 is told the bus driver was left with a cut near his eye and was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. He tells News 12 that he has 10 stitches in his head as a result of the attack.
He says he's been working for the MTA since 1996 and does not know the man who hit him.
Police say the suspect has a beard and mustache and was last seen wearing a black winter cap, a red hooded sweater and a dark-colored jacket.
In a statement, the MTA Bus Company president says, "This unprovoked assault is completely appalling. We will do everything we can to assist the NYPD in bringing those responsible for this heinous attack to justice."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
