Police shoot stabbing suspect on Brooklyn street
Police shot and killed a man they believed to be a suspect in a stabbing Sunday, and residents are questioning their actions.
The series of events began with the stabbing on Autumn Avenue after 7 a.m. Police say a 33-year-old man was slashed and stabbed in the face and stomach. The suspect fled the scene.
Police say they found the suspect on Grant Avenue, where he threatened two officers with a broken bottle and ignored requests to drop the weapon. Police then opened fire; EMS pronounced him dead.
Residents are wondering whether the shooting had to happen. ?In broad daylight, with a glass bottle that's visible? Come on, don't have to shoot the guy,? neighbor Wilfredo Velez says.
Police say the man who was stabbed was the suspect's roommate. He was treated for his injuries and is expected to survive.
