Poolgoers protest to keep pop-up pool open
Community members are urging the city to keep Brooklyn Bridge Park's pop-up pool open.
For the last five summers, many people have called the park's pool a "hidden oasis" under the roar of traffic.
The contract for the pop-up pool expires after Labor Day, but city officials and neighbors say they want an extension.
The corporation that manages the pool says it ultimately hopes to create a space that can be used year-round.
"We love the pop-up pool too," said Belinda Cape, of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation. "And we're eager to work with our local elected officials to secure funding for a larger, permanent pool for Brooklyn Bridge Park."
Many protesters say they believe that once the current pool is demolished there won't be another one.
