A postal worker was attacked by a group while delivering mail in Greenpoint Monday evening.
Surveillance video from a shop on Nassau Avenue captured the attack. Witness Kevin Mulvena says he ran to the worker’s aid when he heard the scuffle.
The 57-year-old, who has delivered mail in the neighborhood since 2008, walked away with a broken nose and stitches above his eye.
Before the attack, the postal worker told the union that the men in the video started to harass him.
“He was trying to cross the street and they, the bikers, surrounded him and then that's how everything escalated from there,” said National Association of Letter Carriers Branch President John Cruz.
Cruz says he is grateful that good Samaritans jumped in when they did, although he says these kinds of attacks are part of a disturbing trend.
"This is not the first assault on a letter carrier in Brooklyn. Just a few days ago, we had an assault with an individual chasing a letter carrier with a knife,” said Cruz.
Detectives are hoping that someone recognizes the men in the surveillance video that are still on the loose.
The postal worker is following the doctor’s orders and taking some time away from work.
